How to transplant with a food can

I hate to throw away a perfectly good plant just because it's too close to another. I made a small transplanting fixture out of tomato paste can. First I cut the bottom off the can. I used an angle grinder. Then I cut it lengthwise, so I have two halves. Now dig in with the sharp edges and remove the plant.

Just squeeze the two halves of the can together to protect the roots.

Make a spacious place for it. Insert plant and trans-planter into hole. Pack dirt around the two halves of the transplanting fixture and pull it out.

Pull out the jig and water the plant

This little transplanting jig works great for filling in incomplete rows from over-seeded areas.
